BETWEEN TWO RIVERS

“İki Nehir Arası” İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nda Almanya’nın Doğu Cephesinde, Barbarossa Harekâtı’nda görevli bir asker ile Frankfurt’ta onu bekleyen eşi ile arasındaki mektuplaşma ve günlükler üzerinden ilerleyen bir roman. Bu yönüyle metinde yazarın sesi yok.

“Between Two Rivers” moves along at Germany’s Eastern Front in the Second World War through correspondence and diaries between a soldier in the Barbarossa operation and his wife waiting for him in Frankfurt.  From this aspect, the author has no voice in the text.

İki Nehir Arası, realist roman sınıflamasına girebilir.

Araştırma, inceleme, değerlendirme unsurlarının esas alındığı bir roman olan “İki Nehir Arası”nı her ne kadar realist bir roman olarak nitelendirsem de romanın muamma içeren bir suçu hikâye etmesi nedeniyle aynı zamanda polisiye roman kategorisi içerisinde de değerlendirilebileceğini düşünmekteyim.

“İki Nehir Arası” İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nda Almanya’nın Doğu Cephesinde, Barbarossa Harekâtı’nda görevli bir asker ile Frankfurt’ta onu bekleyen eşi ile arasındaki mektuplaşma ve günlükler üzerinden ilerleyen bir roman. Bu yönüyle metinde yazarın sesi yok. Yazım olarak diğer romanlarımdan ayrılan en belirgin noktası da bu denilebilir. Ayrıca metni üslup olarak klasik ve romantik cümlelerin yapaylığından uzak tutarak gerçekliği ön plana çıkarmayı amaçladığımı da söylemeliyim.

Bu manada, romanda güdülen realist kurgu nedeniyle, sıradan kişiler üzerinden konunun hikâye edilmesinin yanı sıra romanın geçtiği ki takribi altı yıllık bir süre, zaman ve mekân boyutunda yaşanılanlar tarihsel olarak doğru ve tutarlı; temelde, araştırma ve belgelere dayanarak, olayları nesnel bir şekilde aktarmayı çabaladım denebilir. Daha açık bir ifadeyle biçim ve içerik güzelliğine önem verirken, dilde ve anlatımda süsten, özentiden kaçındığımı söyleyebilirim.

Diğer taraftan romandaki ana karakterin, tüm bu süre zarfında, (Eylül/39, Mayıs/45 arası),  savaşın başladığı dönemden sona erdiği döneme kadar her yazdığı günlüğün sonuna çizdiği, mekâna ve içinde bulunduğu duruma uygun karakalem resimler okuyucuya, onun ruh hali, gizli saklı niyetleri, geleceğe yönelik planları noktasında işaretler vermektedir. Roman bu yönüyle resim-metin olarak ilerleyen bir yapıdadır. (Doğal olarak romandaki resimlerin de benim tarafımdan çizildiğini özellikle de belirtmeme  sanırım gerek yok…)

Bu yapının sonunda nasıl bir motif ortaya koyduğunu ise ancak romanı bitirince, 14.Ağustos.1983 tarihli “MOSSAD Raporu”ndan anlayabiliriz. Bu rapor her ne kadar tahminlere, kanaatlere dayalı bir rapor olsa da metindeki mektup ve günlükler ile tutarlı bir rapordur. Bu nedenle rapor tüm romanın bir özeti niteliğindedir.

Son bir söz olarak, bilindiği üzere Sherlock Holmes’un yaveri Dr.Watson’a iyi bir detektiflik işinin nasıl yürütmesi gerektiğini anlatırken ısrarla vurguladığı gibi, “sana kaç kez söyledim; imkânsız olanı eledikten sonra geride kalanın, ne kadar olasılık dışı olsa da gerçek olması gerekir diye,” sözü belki de bu romanın dayandığı temel argümanlardan bir olarak öne sürülebilir.

ABOUT “BETWEEN TWO RIVERS”

“Between Two Rivers” can be classified as realistic novel.

Although, as I specify the novel “Between Two Rivers” as a realistic novel ground on elements of research, examination and evaluation. I think the novel can also be evaluated in the category of thriller due to relation of crime story involving enigma.

“Between Two Rivers” moves along at Germany’s Eastern Front in the Second World War through correspondence and diaries between a soldier in the Barbarossa operation and his wife waiting for him in Frankfurt.  From this aspect, the author has no voice in the text. This is the most prominent point among my novels. I also have to say that I aim to bring reality to the foreground by keeping the text in style away from the artificiality of classic and romantic sentences.

In this sense, because of the realistic fiction that was herded in the story which has narrated consistently based on the history with the ordinary characters for six years reffering to essential research and documents, it can be said that I tried to approach affairs in objective way in terms of period of time and space. In other words, while paying attention to the beauty of form and content, I can say that I have avoided flamboyance and imitation in language and expression.

On the other hand, the main character in the novel, during all this time (September/39, May/45), from the beginning of the war to the end, draws at the end of her journal a charcoal drawing that are related to her situation in a place in which he is present, gives a hint in her mental state, his secret intentions and his future plans. From this aspect, the structure of the novel is based on picture – text manner.  (I don't think I need to mention in particular that the pictures in the novel are also drawn by me.…)

At the end of the novel “The Mossad Report” dated to 14th of August 1983 exposes the structure of the novel. Although this report is based on estimations and opinions, it’s consistent with letters and diaries in the text. For this reason, the report is a summary of the whole novel.

As one last word, as Sherlock Holmes insisted when he tells his assistant, Dr. Watson, about how to manage a good detective job, “How often have I said to you that when you eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” This statement can be asserted as one of the main argument on which this novel is based.
